High Intensity Pelvic Exercise

High Intensity Pelvic Exercise helps urinary incontinence

What is High Intensity Pelvic Exercise?

High Intensity Pelvic Exercise (HIPEX) is one of the latest technology using electromagnetic energy to help patients suffering from stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The focused electromagnetic field is able to pass through all skin and fat to stimulate high intensity pelvic floor muscle contractions, similar to Kegel exercises. This is ideal for strengthening our pelvic floor muscle which helps to support our bladder and urethra. HIPEX is proven to be safe and effective. And best of all, there is no downtime after the treatment.

What is stress urinary incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) refers to the involuntary leakage of urine triggered by any physical exertion on the bladder. This can occur during coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercise. It can affect men and women of any age but is most common after repeated pregnancy, menopause or prostate surgery.  The main cause of SUI is due to the weakening of pelvic floor which comprises of a group of muscles and ligaments to keep the urethra closed so that urine remains in the bladder. This can be made worse by conditions such as obesity, chronic coughing and constipation which put pressure on the bladder.

Undergoing HIPEX treatment

What do I expect from a High Intensity Pelvic Exercise session?

A single treatment session requires only 30 minutes. It is non invasive and there is no pain. You will be seated comfortably on our HIPEX chair while the device performs pelvic floor exercises for you. For best results, repeat the treatment 2 to 3 times a week. At the end of 6 to 8 sessions, you should start to notice improvements to your urinary incontinence. Thereafter, you have the option to continue the sessions on a weekly basis to maintain your positive results.

On a side note, there is also clinical evidence to support that pelvic floor exercises may help to improve sexual function in both men and women.

You may also want to combine your HIPEX treatments with our Electromagnetic Muscle Trainer (EMT) sessions for a more toned, sculpted and slimmer body.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I am the right candidate for HIPEX?

The best way to know if you are a right candidate is to consult a doctor who is familiar with HIPEX. At Arium Clinic, we begin with asking your medical history. After that, our doctor will discuss your treatment goals. If you have any questions about the treatment, we will also answer them to the best of our ability. This is to give you the assurance and confidence before you begin treatment with us.

What happens during the HIPEX treatment?

During the treatment, you will be seated comfortably on our HIPEX chair which is connected to our device. There is no need to remove your clothes for the treatment. During the procedure, you may feel pulling or stretching sensations during the initial warm-up exercises. When the work-out begins, you will feel your pelvic floor muscles contracting under the electromagnetic stimulation. You are encouraged to rest and relax while the device does the exercises for you. No sweat.

What does a standard 30 minute HIPEX treatment comprises of?

Our HIPEX device has unique pre-programmed modules which are targeted at urinary incontinence and to stimulate perineal region for men and women. Each program comprises of stretching/warm-up exercises and fixed sets of 5 minute work-outs. The session then ends with a set of cool down exercises.

What are the side effects from the treatment?

Side effects from HIPEX treatments are not common. You may encounter temporary muscle pain or cramps in the pelvic floor region. These symptoms are not serious and will resolve on its own within a few days.

How many HIPEX treatments do I need?

We recommend an average of 6 to 8 HIPEX treatments to see significant results. These treatments should be spaced at 2 to 3 times a week. You can also discuss your expectations with our doctor. Then, we will be able to design a treatment plan to meet your personal goals.

Are there any persons who are unsuitable for HIPEX?

HIPEX treatment is a safe procedure for healthy individuals. However, we do not advice pregnant patients, or those with medical implants, pacemakers, bleeding disorders, high blood pressure or epilepsy to receive HIPEX treatments. Where possible, we would avoid to treat areas with broken or infected skin, bones or joints with signs of acute inflammation or areas with cancerous growths.
